a qualified Oncology RN in Charlotte, North Carolina, 28203! Job
Title: RN - Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Profession: Registered
Nurse Specialty: Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2
years of Pediatric experience with a strong background in
Oncology/Hematology. BMT experience is highly preferred. License:
Current Registered Nurse license Certifications: BLS, PALS, APHON
provider card Must-Have: Port access experience is a must.
Experience with chemotherapy administration, blood product
transfusion, and cardiac rhythm interpretation is required.
Comfortability with blood cultures, central line care, PCA pumps,
and Heparin gtt is essential. Description: This position involves
caring for pediatric patients with oncology and hematology
conditions. The unit has a capacity of 24 beds, including
specialized areas for both Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow
Transplant patients. The average daily census is 22 patients. All
nurses work interchangeably throughout the unit, providing
high-quality care. The patient population includes neonates to
adults who have received childhood cancer treatments. This unit
sees a variety of patient diagnoses, including solid tumors,
leukemia, sickle cell disease, and aplastic anemia. The nursing
staff provides care during critical moments of treatment,
particularly on days 0, 1, and 2 post-transplant. Patients on the
unit may also have behavioral health diagnoses. The RN-to-patient
ratio is dependent on acuity, with a typical ratio of 1:3 for
Hematology/Oncology patients and 1:1 to 1:2 for Bone Marrow
Transplant patients. Support within the department includes charge
RN oversight, unit educators, and additional resources such as
rounding psychiatric technicians. The unit is equipped with
technology to facilitate patient monitoring and medication
administration. Nurses play a crucial role in patient assessments,
medication delivery, and coordination of care with
multidisciplinary teams. This position requires a strong team
player who is proactive and takes initiative in providing care. 5
