Job Description

As an Associate Materials Engineer, you will work with cross functional teams to continuously improve cost and quality of products within a structured product development process. Your work will contribute to our cost improvement objectives of our business.

  • Learn and apply lean product development tools, systematic problem solving and critical thinking to continuous improvement projects.
  • Liaison with supply chain personnel, vendors, and manufacturing staff for the specification and sourcing of raw materials, components, and final products.
  • Develop Design Validation Plans, coordinate testing, and provide hands-on troubleshooting to ensure requirements are met.
  • Assure product quality with thorough validation of production processes with direct support of plant trials.
  • Participate in internal design meetings to understand design and functional requirements.
  • Execute experiments with guidance from more senior engineers and document results; makes recommendations for improvements based on the test results.



    • B.S. degree in Engineering (Chemical or Materials) from an accredited university
    • 0-2 years in Materials Engineering with a track record of problem solving and project success.
    • Basic knowledge of materials science concepts
    • Ability to perform detail-oriented work accurately.
    • Time management, prioritization & analytical problem solving.
    • Adaptable, able to adjust to ongoing changes and improvements.
    • Self-motivated and collaborative
    • Good written and oral communication skills
    • Desire to work hands-on, prototype and troubleshoot proactively.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)


      • Previous experience or internship/co-op in Materials Engineering
      • Fundamental polymer chemistry knowledge
      • Experience with instrumental color evaluation and calibration
      • Experience in quality assurance and statistical evaluation methodologies
      • Experience in DFMEA and problem-solving methodologies
      • Experience working cross-functionally with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing
      • Experience with plastic extrusions (both single and co-extrusion)
      • Experience with wood plastic composite materials & manufacturing methods
